Guys

With summer on the horizon, Bronx Prep is gearing up for a season of graduations, celebrations and transitions.

Our seniors are preparing for their transition to college, our middle-schoolers are preparing to enter our high school, and with our lottery process complete, we are preparing for the arrival of 85 fifth graders who will start the school year in August.

We invite you to join us at the many celebrations and graduations, and especially at our upcoming fundraiser on June 16 at Greenhouse. See the invitation below for more information.

We look forward to seeing you soon and sharing the good news of our growing legacy of excellence.

Learning Enhanced

One Student’s Thoughts on College Trips Eleventh Grade Luminary Alethea Brown shares her thoughts on annual college trips.I feel the college trips are one of the best things about attending Bronx Prep. There are a lot of schools that don’t get these opportunities, much less the opportunities to have regular school trips. The college trips helped me to get an idea of what type of campus I would like to attend. I have decided that I would prefer to go to a college that has a smaller student body, because you’d have more time to talk with the professors in case you need help.

From the college trips that I have been on so far, the schools that I enjoyed the most were Bowdoin, New England School of Communication, Villanova, SUNY Geneseo, just to name a few.

 BHM

The Black History Month assembly was developed and executed by 11th grade luminary Sahira Johnson. Sahira invited Dr. Eugene Callender, legendary civil-rights activist, writer and theologian, to visit Bronx Prep for the day’s festivities.

The assembly included comments from Dr. Eugene Callender, dramatic portrayals of civil rights leaders and a performance by a student band.

BxP Spirit Squads Continue their Legacy of Winning

JVCheer

Our JV and Varsity Cheerleaders competed in a competition at MS 45 in May. The Varsity squad took 2nd place and the JV squad took 1st!  The squads performed routines that included stunts, tumbling and both a cheer and dance section.

The Boys Basketball team wrapped up a very successful season by playing in the Charter School League Championship game against Harlem Promise Academy. Though it was a tough loss, the players had a wonderful experience. “Though we faced many ups and downs during the season, I am very proud of my team,” said Garfield Robinson, Class of 2012. “We were focused and played with great momentum in the championship game.”

Thank You for Supporting Our Summer Scholarship Fundraising Drive!

Thank you for supporting our evening of Piano, Painting and Photography on May 17 to supplement summer opportunities for Bronx Prep scholars. Our students were thrilled with the experience of displaying their talent to such a welcoming and receptive audience. Because of the generous contributions of so many of you, we have raised more than $25,000 to date. We are grateful to our gracious hosts, Paul Feuerman and Bruce Grivetti, whose generosity, hospitality, and beautiful home made the evening possible.

If you were unable to make a contribution at the event, or know of someone who would like to do so, please know that there is still time.

A donation at any level is always welcome and will directly support students’ pursuits of artistic and academic passions this summer.

Click here to make a donation and type “Summer Scholarships” in the designation box near the bottom of the form.

Our Impact

Parent Association Hosts First Parent 2 Parent Support Phone-A-Thon

As critical members of the Bronx Prep family, our parents are building on all of the incredible work that faculty and staff do each day by reaching out to their fellow parents to offer support for students who are struggling to achieve at their greatest potential. In addition, parents shared ‘shout outs’ for the interim progress and achievements of our scholars, visionaries, and luminaries. Parents were able to remind their fellow parents of the many resources available to them and their students and to be the bearers of good news on behalf of faculty.

Thanks to all of our parents who help us to demonstate that success is built on the partnerships between parents, students and school staff: Teamwork Makes the Dreamwork.
BxP Alum Supports St. Baldrick’s Foundation

J. Drake

Jasmine Drake, an ’09 graduate and Sophomore at the University of Virgina, explains why she supports such a worthy cause.

On March 24, 2011, Jasmine Drake shaved her head with 119 other UVA students to show their support for childhood cancer research at a St. Baldrick’s event. They raised 89K at the event. The organization raises money for research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. People can support the organization’s goals and philosophy by donating money to the organization or shaving their heads bald to show support and stand in solidarity with children who have cancer.

Jasmine Drake on why she supports such a worthy cause.

“My time as a Bronx Prep cheerleader from 2008-2009 truly opened my eyes on the effects of cancer in my community. Coach Reid and Coach Smith facilitated the cheerleaders’ contribution to the Breast Cancer Walk and we showed our support. I did raise money for the event, but once a close family friend of mine got Breast Cancer, I knew that there was more that could be done to support cancer research. Thus, I decided to shave my hair off this year.  After shaving it all off, I am truly proud of myself and the people who live their lives every day with no hair. I did have a choice whether to cut my hair off, but cancer victims and survivors don’t. Thus, my actions represent my courage, strength, and respect for my community and cancer victims all over the world.”
