Letter from Our Co – Interim Heads of School
On Thursday June 5, 2014 the SUNY Trustees’ delegation of authority to the Charter School Institute approved Democracy Prep Public Schools to operate Bronx Prep Charter School for the 2014-15 school year.
Following the approval Bronx Prep’s Board of Directors voted to approve Emmanuel George as the Head of School beginning July 1, 2014.
Mr. George has been a vital member of the Democracy Prep staff since 2009. He began his career at the network as a high school science teacher. An alumnus of Democracy Prep’s leadership training program, Mr. George went on to be the founding principal of the network’s second middle school, Democracy Prep Harlem Middle School. In 2013 he was named the Assistant Superintendent for Middle Schools.
Prior to working at Democracy Prep Mr. George taught at two high performing charter school networks: Harlem Village Academies and Harlem Children’s Zone. He began his career teaching at traditional public schools in North Carolina and New York.
Mr. George’s passion for education can be traced back to his family. His mother was a teacher and he is the product of the New York public school system. After graduating from high school Mr. George received his Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Livingstone College and his Masters degree in Educational Leadership from the College of New Rochelle.
“The opportunity to lead the turnaround at Bronx Prep is something that I am extremely grateful for,” Mr. George said. “I know we will lead this school back to its rightful place as one of the pillars of the New York Charter Movement. I eagerly await the challenge.”
