The mission of the Bronx Preparatory Charter School is to prepare under-served middle and high school students for higher education, community involvement and lifelong success through a structured, caring environment of high academic expectations. We strive to develop eight core values in our scholars (The 7 Cs+1): curiosity, commitment, competence, character, confidence, caring, community and communication. From humble beginnings in September 2000, with eight rented classrooms in a church basement and an enrollment of 100 students, we now have approximately 700 students matriculating in our own $20 million state-of-the-art facility. Every Bronx Prep graduate has earned admission into college. Our alumni currently attend more than 50 colleges across the country, including Stanford, MIT, Carnegie Melllon, NYU, Swarthmore, Georgetown, Howard, University of Virginia, Wellesley, and various SUNY and CUNY campuses.

At Bronx Prep, we are preparing 100% of our scholars each day for college and beyond. Since 2000, we have been educating underserved children in the South Bronx, and as we come to the end of our 11th year, five graduating classes have left our doors for higher education and lifelong learning. Eighty percent of our alumni are persisting in college, and our first class of graduates have blazed a trail to college graduation, defying the odds and carrying out Bronx Prep’s mission.

Our graduates and their accomplishments inspire us to better serve our community of scholars and to prepare them to follow in the same footsteps – college-ready and college-bound!

Bronx Prep held its annual College Mail Out Day on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, to celebrate all of our seniors who are applying to colleges and universities. On this day, seniors mailed applications to CUNY and SUNY schools, fulfilling part of their graduation requirements. The entire school participated –cheering and making signs. Mr. Russell, our 5th grade teacher made a repeat performance as our delightful Master of Ceremonies. Mr. Almonte, our basketball coach served as DJ, playing tunes for over 690 students, faculty and administration. The event marked the beginning of the application cycle, championing our students’ aspiration to attend college.
